Before and After
The images above are a small sampling of art restoration and conservation work that Gustavo Perez has provided. He has brought many of the great artist's work back to life with a skill inherent as well as learned. He attended university in Guadalajara, Mexico and has been a restorer in Los Angeles for seventeen years. Among artist's work he has repaired are Chagall, Dali, Neiman, Warhol, Picasso, Erte, Lichtenstein, Rusha, Charlot, Zuniga, the list is long and there are many artworks that cover a wide range of mediums and styles.
Gustavo created a method of cleaning works on paper enabling the paper to be safe. It is never immersed fully in solution, the exposure is completely controlled. On rare occasions an artwork that may have sustained a severe discoloration in spots, known as foxing, cannot be fully cleaned without damage to the paper. If the cleaning is pushed to remove embedded foxing, the paper crystallizes in those areas, leaving it weak prone to future damage through being in contact with any circumstance that can create a suspect exposure.
